Hi! I’m Cody. I’m an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for Indianapolis EMS. Over the past few months, I, like many, have been tasked with shouldering a little more weight than usual due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of this, I have begun making it a point to come in about an hour before each shift to help disinfect equipment and to stay later to make sure that everything I’ve used is ready to go for the oncoming crew. I’ve also begun making it a personal task to teach myself additional skills and information to better assist my paramedic partner, such as 12 lead EKG interpretation and advanced pharmacology so as to lighten the load of our increased run volume.
For me, getting LASIK would be a game-changer. Being a first responder, I’m oftentimes tasked with functioning in very unstable and uncomfortable environments while responding to gunshots, cardiac arrests, and highly infectious diseases. From crawling to sprinting, there’s always a chance for me to lose my glasses, and in turn my ability to render aid. Not having to worry about losing them would make my job unbelievably easier.
I really hope you’ll consider me for this awesome opportunity. I love being able to serve my community, and I’m sure that this will be a great way to help me do just that.
