PROGRAM

What do we know about Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK)? Why should you be doing it? Essentially refractive neutral; rapid visual recovery; tectonically stronger eye intra-operatively and post-operatively; even with a loss of a line of Snellen vision, many patients prefer DSEK eye; accepted as the standard of care for Fuchs’ Dystrophy and Pseudophakic Bullous Keratopathy; eye banks now provide pre-cut tissue.
Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) is intended to be refractive neutral. May address the most common reason for repeat DSEK: wrinkles/folds in visual area of graft. DMEK makes the eye look perfect. May not replace DSEK for some cases; need to know when DMEK and when DSEK.

WHAT DO I BRING?

Participating physicians bring the following items (please label your instruments with your name).

  • 0.5 forceps
  • 0.12 forceps
  • Small smooth tying forceps
  • Small angled tying forceps
  • At least 4 or 5 human corneal scleral rims at least 15 mm in diameter, no more than 7-10 days old
  • At least two whole globes

You may bring your practice tissue with you or have your eye bank ship it to us.
Please use Fed-Ex “First Overnight Delivery” so that we receive the tissue on the first day of the course. IMPORTANT: Identify the shipping container as RESEARCH tissue, so that it is not combined with surgical tissue. Address your package to:
