Q & A With Dr. Price

When did you know that you wanted to be an ophthalmologist?
My father was also a doctor. I witnessed the positive impact he made on the lives of his patients and I wanted to feel the same way about my work. I took a rotation in ophthalmology while in medical school and found the eye fascinating to look at with fascinating equipment to treat it.

Why do you do Lasik and ICLs?
LASIK and ICLs help eyes have more functional and normal vision. LASIK is safer than contact lenses over a lifetime (if performed appropriately), and I suspect ICLs will be as well. We continue to do research to improve outcomes for both of these surgeries as we do for cataracts and corneal transplants.

What do you love most about your job?
It is a profession that allows constant innovation and growth. I appreciate the challenge, and I love helping people see better!

If you weren't an ophthalmologist, what would you be?
I love nature. If I wasn’t an ophthalmologist, I would be a guide or tracker. I would enjoy helping others get the same enjoyment that I do from hiking and canoeing. I also enjoy growing things, so perhaps a farmer.

When you aren't helping patients, lecturing, or conducting research, how do you like to spend your time?
I love to travel. My wife and I usually make it a family affair and include our children and grandchildren. We especially enjoy canoeing the Canadian boundary waters. I also love gardening and working in the yard.

What is the one thing that you'd like your patients to know about you?
I sincerely appreciate the trust my patients place in me. I work hard to exceed their expectations, and not just through surgery. I try to find ways to eliminate the need for surgery and cure people more effectively
