“Care-Free” Cataract Surgery
Cataracts are caused by a natural clouding of the lens of your eye that occurs over time. It is a natural part of the aging process, and something everyone will have to seek treatment for depending on how old you live.
The only way to permanently fix cataracts and restore clear vision is through cataract surgery. During the procedure, your surgeon will break up and suction out the hard, cloudy lens of your eye, and replace it with a clear, artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL)
This might sound troubling, but patients should take comfort in knowing that modern cataract surgery has advanced tremendously over the years, and has become one of the safest and most commonly performed procedures in the entire world, with over 95% of all patients seeing at least 20/40 (good enough for driving) after surgery.
An excellent example of the advancement in cataract surgery is right here at Price Vision Group. Our pioneering eye surgeons are now performing modern-day cataract surgery that no longer requires stitches, needles...or even a patch to wear home!
Called 'Care-Free' cataract surgery, this approach to cataract care gives our patients immediate visual improvement after the procedure. It also speeds up recovery, with most patients comfortably returning to most normal daily activities in as little as 24 hours after their procedure.
The “Care-Free” cataract surgery practiced at Price Vision Group means you get to spend more time enjoying your new vision...and less time recovering from surgery.
Advanced Lens Options That Reduce Your Dependence On Glasses
Some of the most exciting advancements in vision care are happening with the lens technology used in cataract surgery. New IOLs are being developed all the time that make the surgery easier, and the results even better. In fact, many of these lenses can even reduce or eliminate your need to ever wear glasses again after cataract surgery!
Some examples include:
The Crystalens® Accomodating IOL, that actually mimics the natural flexibility of a healthy, youthful lens, restoring focusing power at most distances, including up close for reading.
The ReSTOR® Multifocal IOL – designed with specific viewing ‘zones’ that provide you with clear vision at all distances, thereby reducing or your need for glasses.
Be sure and ask Price Vision Group about their advanced cataract surgery options at your vision evaluation.
The Procedure and What to Expect:
If you think eye surgery has to complicated, you’ll be surprised to know just how easy ‘Care-Free” cataract surgery at Price Vision Group really is!
On the day of your surgery, you will be asked to arrive at the center about an hour prior to your procedure. After check-in, you’ll be offered a sedative that will help you relax if you choose.
Shortly afterwards, you will be prepped for your procedure. The area around your eyes will be cleaned and disinfected, and a sterile drape applied around your eye. Eye drops or a local anesthetic will be used to numb your eyes, and an eyelid holder will be placed between your eyelids to keep you from blinking during the procedure.
The actual surgery takes only minutes, and is virtually painless. Your surgeon will make a very small incision, and insert a tiny ultrasonic probe that breaks up your cloudy lens into microscopic particles using high-energy sound waves. This process is called phacoemulsification.
These particles are then suctioned out of the eye, and replaced with the artificial IOL of your choice. The IOL is then opened up and locked into position, effectively replacing the old cloudy lens of your eye with a clear version that immediately restores vision.
The amazing part is that the tiny incision is "self sealing," and usually requires no stitches. It remains tightly closed by the natural outward pressure within the eye, where it heals extremely fast. This technique makes recovery quick and comfortable. Most patients notice an immediate improvement in visual clarity.
After your procedure, you will relax in post-operation for a little while, and then be allowed to go home with a driver. As you relax through the rest of the day and evening, you’ll notice your vision continuing to improve. You will most likely be able to return to normal activities, including driving, the very next day. Your vision will continue to improve over the week as any swelling from the surgery subsides.
